Design Case Study: Stainless Steel Cookware
My Role: Iterative sketch exploration, concept refinement, CAD development & visualization, DFM and tooling specs
Developed during my time at Empire Group, this comprehensive, end-to-end industrial design program drove the creation and launch of Princess House’s premium stainless steel cookware line, Vida Sana. I shepherded the collection through every stage of development, beginning with rapid sketch ideation and brand integration, translating those into refined sculptural concepts, and optimizing the physical geometry through advanced 3D CAD modeling and iterative functional prototyping. Key focus areas included thermal ergonomics for the handle assemblies, pouring rim geometry, and lid integration. To ensure flawless design execution, I produced the final production-ready CAD models, technical drawings, dimensional linework, and manufacturing specifications utilized directly by the client’s manufacturing partners for mass production.
Introducing Princess House’s newest line of premium cookware, Vida Sana. The 5-ply construction, stainless steel cookware heats fast and evenly and provides you the option of healthy or traditional cooking. The nutri-steam™ valve combined with the steam-seal™ lid allow for greaseless cooking, which traps bold flavor & more nutrients in your vegetables and proteins. Developing the product from start to finish, we researched, sketched, modeled, and refined Vida Sana to be a robust, beautiful, and high functioning set of cookware.
CONCEPT IDEATION
After thorough inspiration gathering and competitive research, we generated a volume of concept “thumbnails.”
CONCEPT SKETCHES
We then synthesized the concept “thumbnails” into more holistic design directions.
CONCEPT REFINEMENT
Selecting a final direction, we then moved into CAD to really nail down the design, 3D printing components and plotting orthographics along the way for validation.
FINAL CONCEPT RENDERINGS
CONTROL DRAWINGS
To finalize the design, we developed control drawings to send to the manufacturers for quoting and production.
TECHNICAL RENDERINGS
We generated “technical” renderings serving as marketing assets to show off the design, functions, and features of the new line of cookware.
