Design Case Study: Corded Upright Vacuum

As the Industrial Design Lead overseeing development from the concept layout phases through to final Mass Production (MP), I headed the visual execution and system integration for the Shark® Vertex™ Upright Vacuum (AZ2000). A flagship program within Shark’s core fleet, this product demanded an intense balance of heavy-duty mechanical engineering, strict aerodynamic performance metrics, and premium aesthetic execution. I was responsible for shepherding the complex, multi-configuration Powered Lift-Away system, ensuring flawless visual and functional cohesion whether the unit is docked as a full upright or detached for portable cleaning. Through rigorous cross-functional collaboration and meticulous spatial packaging, we successfully optimized a dense, high-wear physical architecture into an intuitive, ergonomic, and premium consumer appliance that continues to anchor the brand's presence at major retail scale.
